What The Fuss: Real Coffee and Calamansi Muffin Taste Test

With the favorable reviews from Tripadvisor and being called "The Famous", our palate yearned for Real Coffee's Calamansi Muffin. On our last day in Boracay, we took our breakfast at this place after shopping for pasalubong in D' Mall.

The only signage of this restaurant is the plywood below, so you  really have to be alert when looking for it.

The popularity of the famous Calamansi Muffin is already felt upon entering the cafe. You will be welcomed with their boxed calamansi muffin take-out counter. The dining area is on the second floor.

You will take a break from the usual concrete walled diners as you go further inside because the interiors are nipa-hut inspired.

And who doesn't like a good beach view?

Another set of unique things that will distinguish this cafe are the hand-written notes and photos from previous customers.

These two are my favorite.

REAL COFFEE (PHP 120)
Of course, I had to try out that product where the name of the cafe was derived from - their famous Real Coffee. So what does a "real coffee" taste like? It tastes so much like Kapeng Barako! So Kapeng Barako haters, you're welcome. :) Nevertheless, should you feel open-minded, it is served with fresh milk which you can combine with their muscovado sugar to add flavor to it.

      MANGO LASSI (PHP 160)

Nothing special on this drink. It is just home-made yogurt shaken with fresh mango.

      ULTIMATE MUFFIN (PHP 65)

Ultimate muffin has a loose texture, baked with walnut bits and will give you an after-effect of raisin aroma. We cannot call it as a good muffin, though.

       CALAMANSI MUFFIN (PHP 60)

Lastly, the main event: the famous Calamansi Muffin! Perhaps the reason why it's famous is because of its unique flavor - the calamansi.  Infused with the right amount of calamansi, every bite will bring you the zesty, sweet and smooth treat. Its texture is dense and rich, unlike the Ultimate Muffin. Best to partner it with Real Coffee, I swear!

      WANNA-CHOW-AGAIN  METER
It felt fulfilling that we're able to try the famous Calamansi Muffin, but we can't say we will try it again in case we go back to Boracay. The ambiance of the place perhaps is the most admirable aspect of this cafe. Rating it as "Ok. Been Here."
