Discovery Shores Boracay: A First Anniversary Dinner

I did not have any idea where Mr. C would bring me for our anniversary dinner. Hence, the thrill of wondering.

My wondering turned into joy when we stopped by Discovery Shores, a luxury hotel in Boracay.

Indigo is the name of the restaurant. The staff greeted us enthusiastically as if they were expecting us. Little did I know, Mr. C made a reservation, something that is usually my job. He even showed his email if his conversation with the staff. I smiled in awe.

Since it's lean season, there were no other guests but us. Mr. C jokingly said, 'Actually pina-reserve ko yung buong restaurant.' I laughed. That was a timely joke.

Their dishes are quite expensive!
The server asked us if we wanted the orders to be served one by one or all together. Well, that was our first time to be asked of that choice. We chose the former.

IT'S CHOWTIME!

While waiting for our orders, the server handed us some ciabatta with fillings. I did not expect that balsamic vinegar (in the middle) was that sour!

BAREFOOT MOSCATO CALIFORNIA 2014 (PHP 1600)

Since it's a special occasion, we grabbed a bottle of wine, something that we did for the first time.We were about to choose Chardonnay because it's our favorite but for the sake of not having tried Moscato yet, we selected Moscato as our wine of the night.

CHARCUTERIE & CHEESE (PHP 595)

Since we are lovers of cheese, we both agreed to get charcuterie & cheese for our appetizer. It consists of cream cheese and blue cheese as their cheesy component. We tried each ingredient together with the wine and the best wine partner was the crostini! Adding cream cheese to it is addictive too. The mango and blue berry jam are great, too! The meat is just OK. Good thing there's dried mango to break the saltiness of the blue cheese and meat. We must admit that it took a while for us to finish this serving.

LOBSTER BISQUE (PHP 510)

For plating purposes, it was served without the soup first. Yep, that little meat in the middle is the lobster.

The waiter then poured the soup which looked like below. Mr. C mentioned that he will try to imitate this dish as it only tastes like hipong urong. I will let you know when he finally cooks it.
But honestly, I find it too salty. It's like drinking from the sea.

GRILLED OCTOPUS SALAD (PHP 395)

It was a rare opportunity to nibble some octopus but we were kind of disappointed when we found that the serving was only this small. The dish also contains chorizo pamplona and spanish white beans, great complement to the main ingredient. However, it felt bitin.

BRICK OVEN CRABS (PHP 1325/100 GRAMS)

Look at this monster! The crab was cooked perfectly, where the meat was juicy and soft. Mr. C commented that their cooks must have already memorized the perfect amount of time to cook it.

It comes with fried noodles, which has nothing special in it.

They gave us a special tool to do the operation. Mr. C is always the one who manages the crab cracking and meat extracting so this tool massively helped him that night. Yep, he's a gentleman like that. Actually, he became pretty good at it. It was also kinda fun because it sounded like there's a construction going on inside the restaurant.

INDIGO CHOCOLATE MARQUISE (PHP 195)

We did not regret a bit in ordering this delectable dessert! You should not miss this when you visit here! The marquise is so delicious. It has spicy crushed pistachio that suits the dark chocolate taste.

While refilling our wine glasses, the server asked us if we were celebrating anything that night. It's our first anniversary, I answered. She congratulated us with a genuine smile on her face. Okay, looks like we'll be receiving a cake tonight, I told myself.

Nope, we didn't receive a cake, but a gift box containing their praline chocolates, a house specialty. We were a bit humbled because it was presented gracefully.

Here's what is inside the Beautiful Blue Box. The lower right chocolate, the one labeled with INDIGO is my favorite. It's dark chocolatey goodness! Mr. C liked the white chocolates.

WHAT WE LIKED:
  • The service was impeccable! We were treated like kings and queens that night. They always offered us options on how we want to get served. They always provide check backs in every dish on how we find it.
  • The chocolate gift was the cherry on top! They're so delicious. Thank you Indigo for your thoughtfulness!
WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE:
  • We have to admit that the food is not value for money. The dishes are pricey and the serving amount does compensate it.
  • If you could notice in my write-up above, the dishes weren't that great. I wanted to express my honesty whenever they're asking for our opinion about their food but I chose not to because I didn't want to ruin our night.

WANNA-CHOW-AGAIN  METER
To our shock of finding how expensive our total bill was, we wanted to rate it as Never Again. But after reconsidering, I would rate it "OK. Been Here." since we're still thankful for the experience. Plus, don't we deserve it after working hard and on our special day? :)
