We first encountered La Lola Churreria through La Lola on the Go, their kiosk located at the SM Mall of Asia. It easily caught our attention because of the flock of customers all lining up to take a piece. Mr. C uttered, "That's a famous churros bar which, I heard make great churros. They offer matcha dip, too." My eyes flickered upon hearing the "matcha dip". However, the line was too long that time we didn't bother to join the hype. Good thing when we passed by SM North, there was no line at all.
Since there'll be five of us who'll share, we picked their ultimate churros. The cone contains 12 pieces of churros dressed in all their basic flavors.
ULTIMATE CHURROS (PHP 375)
This is what it actually looks like:
Price: Their churros being pricey is perhaps defined by their bragging rights of using 100% olive oil. Yes, 100%.
Texture: Its is characterized by its pleasant crunchiness and the remarkable softness in between.
Taste: For those whose palates favor on simple or just want to enjoy churros with a dip, go for the classic one. My mother-in-law liked it because it's easy to chew and the sweetness is very light. As for the flavored ones, they're still OK but has a very sweet aftertaste, probably because of the sprinkled sugar bits. My cousin-in-law commented that he felt his throat hurt after finishing matcha-flavored churros. So, make sure you bring your bottled water with you if you're going to get some.
MATCHA DIP (PHP 60)
I did enjoy their matcha dip! It's thick and matcha-rich in taste. As a matcha lover, the idea of dipping churros in a cup of luscious matcha is just overwhelming! I should have ordered the large one.
WANNA-CHOW-AGAIN METER
We cannot deny the fact that this dessert parlor does quality churros but not the best in town. Mr. C commented, "Hype lang. Dulcinea is still better." It's an "OK. Been Here." for us.
