We frequently pass by this Mexican restaurant because of its proximity to our workplace but we were hesitant to try it here because of our lack of exposure to Mexican food. Thanks to our recent burrito quest, our heart is becoming closer to Mexican dishes. One lunch time when we were so starving, we decided to venture in what Mexicali has to offer and good thing it didn't disappoint. At least not that much. Overall, we can still say that this is a home of quality Mexican food.
There's a noticeable signage on how to properly eat a burrito that caught our attention. Nope, we're not able to follow it.
They have interesting combo plates to choose from. We opted for Combo 8 since it's a perfect combination of chicken burrito for me and enchilada for Mr. C.
IT'S CHOWTIME!

COMBO 8 (GRILLED CHICKEN BURRITO + BEEF ENCHILADA, PHP 480)
BEEF ENCHILADA
"Ohhh.. cheesy and gooey. It's nice." Mr. C exclaimed as he grabbed a spoonful of the hot, sticky enchilada. After having a taste, I had no choice but to agree with him. It was indeed nice. They got me at the righteous amount of mozarella cheese they put here.
CHICKEN BURRITO
Unlike its usual counterparts, Mexicali's version of chicken burrito is thin, making it easier to grab a large bite. Every component in this burrito is balanced, beans, rice, spices, etc. Topping off every bite with a mixture of a drop of chili sauce, garlic dip and a little salsa will pleasantly amplify the goodness of this dish.
Mr. C then asked me, "So is it still better than your favorite Army Navy chicken burrito?". I answered honestly, "Uhmm.. parang pantay lang eh."
A BOWL OF CHILI (PHP 129)
Mr. C is always on a hunt for a greater chili (because he makes a great one). After tasting, I told Mr. C, "Yours is better." There're too many beans in this bowl and only a little amount of ground meat, attributing to its bitter, almost burnt taste.
WHAT WE LIKED:
- Every food is served hot.
- The overall quality of food is good.
- Food looks deceivingly light but you'll feel substantially full afterwards.
- For some reason, the background music lets you enjoy your buRRRRRito more.
- Their version of chili is just "meh".
WANNA-CHOW-AGAIN METER
Mr. C would go back here for the enchilada and I imagine myself going back here whenever I'm craving for Mexican food. Take Us Back Here!
