Sasahama: The humble authentic Japanese restaurant in Kawit, Cavite

Sasahama is that one humble Japanese restaurant which became our favorite food trip spot in Cavite. I say humble because they're not aggressive in expanding their business to other areas even after a decade of success. Moreover, their restaurant vibe only makes you feel like dining in a simple, old home.

Their frequent customers are the Japanese folks living around this area, but they're pretty known by local people too. We are one of the satisfied customers here who keep coming back.

"Irasshaimase!" You will be greeted enthusiastically by their staff upon entering. They wear different costumes every day. This time around, they wore kimono.

Meet Chef Marlon, their sushi chef. This is his kitchen where he molds his sushi and sashimi creations. You can also choose to sit around this place.

IT'S CHOWTIME!

They eagerly serve cold mugicha or Japanese roasted barley tea once the guest has sat down.

KATAYAKI SOBA (PHP 230)

You will be surprised how big this plate is in real life! Make sure that you're really into soba if you want to order this because this will take you some time to finish.

TEMPURA UDON (PHP 290)

We liked this! The soup has that acceptable salty taste and the udon is cooked just how it should be. The tempura pieces come in shrimp and fish form.

Just a closer look at the udon. Looks yummy, doesn't it?

MIXED SUSHI SPECIAL (PHP 600)

Their mixed sushi comes in two forms. This time, we ordered the special version. We didn't regret adding PHP 115 to experience the other types of sushi they have.

MIXED SUSHI (PHP 485)

I am using an old photo just to show you the difference between the two orders.

TIP:  For those who shun spicy food like me, do not  bother putting any more wasabi on the sushi if you do not want to end up with a runny nose. The mixed sushi is already dabbed with wasabi inside.

CALIFORNIA MAKI (PHP 125)

Their 8-pc California maki can be availed at an affordable price of 125 PHP!

SISO MAKI (PHP 85)

I got curious by this so I tried it out.The waitress said it's Japanese plum, which intrigued me. The maki has a strong leafy taste, I couldn't bear it. If you'll ever like this, I'll find you weird.

WHAT WE LIKED:
  • The food is value for money. It's cheaper than the typical Japanese restaurants but the quality is not compromised.
  • The staff is very accommodating.
    • They're proactive in serving the tea/water.
    • It doesn't take that long before they attend to our needs.
    • They're always smiling and bow their head.
  • They have everything prepared on your table - different selections of condiments, chopsticks, plates, etc.
  • The freebies! Comes in different forms each time of the day - tea, tamago or sliced fruits.

WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE:
  • The waitresses usually only hand you the Lunch Menu for lunch time. They will not offer you the other menu, like the sushi menu unless you specifically ask for it.
  • The place is a smoking area to attend to the Japanese smokers who are regulars there.

    WANNA-CHOW-AGAIN METER
Sasahama is that one food trip stop that we can definitely recommend to anyone living in Cavite. We eat here when we have something to celebrate and we have never been dissatisfied with the food and service. We'll surely be back but it won't also hurt if you'll be the one to take us back! Or do you want us to bring you there? :)
